Tonal Structure

Well we would not expect dramatic tonal frameworks with this image.

This rendition is of my colour correction of the image.

There are banding from the dark to light areas as one would expect.  Surprising small area of mid-tones and I would not have guessed that there was such a large area of 3/4 tones.

But looking at the grey-scale 5 stop rendition does not reveal the contents of the picture.

But my B&W conversion is a little better in the foreground area - so worth doing!

and one assumes probably how he painted it, but age took it's toll.

It just occurred to me that one should apply the B&W conversion as a Luminosity layer over the (corrected) colour image - to see if my attempt to create a better B&W rendition will improve the coloured image.
